Rainy Moments

There is nothing more satisfying than listening to the rain while reading a beautifully written article by a well received art historian, teacher, curator and friend. The bonus is that I am blessed to know many of the artists written about as both colleagues and friends.

Betty Ann Brown has a unique ability to connect art history with today’s contemporary art makers. She analyzes and compares the works of past masters to the works of today. I gain new insight and am always inspired by her. Joanne Julian, J. Michael Walker, Terry Arena, Abel Alejandre, and dear Catherine Ruane are magically skilled artists and people I’ve grown to adore. The article well introduce you to their works which are unique!

So on this rainy day I suggest that you make yourself a hot chocolate, get cozy and read this month’s amazing issue. Take time to investigate the masters mentioned in her article, past and present. Read the other articles! And you don’t need TV and you don’t have to worry about commercials!

After that perhaps pick up a pencil and do some mark making of your own.

Thank you Artillery and thank you Betty for making my day even cozier.

I am a Los Angeles native. Really! Born in DTLA! My works lead the viewer into a dialogue about the connections and differences between people in contemporary times. The rich cultural diversity inspires me to look at the sometimes momentary but intense relationships experienced by people passing through or living in the urban environment. I am a metro queen, riding the rails and using my countless sketches and photographs for painterly portraits of people and creatures in an urban milieu.
