I draw people I see on the metro, at art shows, and in my life relationships. The act of sketching what I perceive to see allows me to connect to the experiences around me in a deeper way. These sketches are later used as references for paintings. I also utilize cell phone references taken on impulse of the urban environment, old family photos and made up stream of consciousness. I often continue to draw into the paintings on impulse. I use the ephemera in my life and in the lives of others to create paintings in order to keep a record of life experiences and create a dialogue with viewers about current life events, diversity, gender, acceptability, and identity. I listen to people’s stories as I sketch and watch their faces to see the flickers of light.
